Role of international organization in maintaining sustainability.

The overuse of common resources has led to governments (national) coming together and forming policies to reduce the use of natural resources or reduce carbon emissions.(for example)
This is due to consequences the entire world faces due to climate change and depletion of the ozone layer that has proved to be harmful in more than one way.
International organizations around the world have to realize the sustainability of the environment is of far greater importance than profits in the short term. if they do not understand this then they will fail to comply by the many policies that their governments come up with.

The 'Montreal Protocol' is one such policy.
The original Montreal Protocol was agreed on 16 September 1987 and entered into force on 1 January 1989.Terms;- Reduce the use of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) ,and  Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was designed to reduce the production and consumption of ozone depleting substances in order to reduce their abundance in the atmosphere, and thereby protect the earth's fragile ozone Layer.

Another policy like this the 'delhi odd-even policy. The capitol has implemented another policy that was set in action on the 1st of January to curb pollution and release of harmful gasses into the environment. This strategy was first used in Los Angeles, USA.The use of cars with a certain number plate (either odd or even) to be allowed to use the roads on one day and the next day the other half to be allowed to use the streets. Which ensures that use of public transport increases and the number of cars on the roads decrease in general. All whilst reducing pollution.

For developing nations such policies seem unreasonable because they bans and limitations may mean that the country has reduce the number of goods it produces, leading to a fall in GDP that is extremely devastating for its economy. Also the permits mean a loss of jobs which also ensures that standard of living and per capita income falls. For such nations to comply by these policies seems unfair and unjust therefore revised policies are ways due to which most countries around the world can contribute towards environmental sustainability.

Some policies are not always successful like the 'Kyoto Protocol' was a complete failure which shows the reason maintaining sustainability fails. But ensuring such policies work can mean that at sometime a point of sustainability may be achieved.

needs citations and evaluation of the policy.
